FANO – The Adriatic Sound Festival, a new large-scale techno event, recently concluded its first edition on june 13 and 14. Held at Fano Airport in the Marche region of Italy, overlooking the Adriatic Sea, the festival featured two stages, 28 artists, and 12 hours of music each day. headliners included Rüfüs Du Sol and techno icon Sven Väth. Organizers reported nearly 17,000 attendees, a significant turnout for a debut event.

A launch party on June 12 at the former Church of Saint Francis in Fano offered a preview of the festival’s atmosphere. The 14th-century church,showcasing a blend of architectural styles,provided a striking backdrop with its neoclassical columns and large apse. The roofless structure evoked comparisons to the Abbey of San Galgano in Tuscany and the Convento do Carmo in Lisbon.

The church’s architectural features were enhanced by lighting and lasers, creating a dialog between past and contemporary elements. Franky Wah performed a DJ set, accompanied by 22-year-old guitarist Brandon Niederauer, who has previously collaborated with Lady Gaga, Stevie Nicks, and blues musicians like Derek Trucks and Buddy Guy.

The festival aimed to highlight fano’s architectural heritage, referencing the city’s Roman past (the ancient Fanum Fortunae) in the design of the main stage, which incorporated elements reminiscent of Roman columns and the Arch of augustus.

the Adriatic Sound Festival featured two main stages: “The Temple,” a large 360-degree open structure, and “The Hangar,” located in front of one of the airport’s three hangars, with the other two hangars serving as visual backdrops during the night.

The festival provided a large parking area, with attendees also utilizing bicycles and shuttle buses. Ambulances and paramedics were present, and the festival grounds included food trucks, bars, and restroom facilities.

The choice of Fano Airport as the location was a key element of the Adriatic Sound Festival, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of U2’s “Beautiful Day” video.the row of airport hangars served as a distinctive “skyline” for the event.

The festival maintained a precise schedule for set changes. The only disruption was a last-minute cancellation by Green Velvet, who was replaced by Nicole Moudaber, who performed a second set after appearing earlier at the Hangar Stage.

The Adriatic Sound Festival seeks to establish itself as a major electronic music event in Italy, south of Turin, which is home to festivals like Kappa FuturFestival, Movement, and C2C. Organizers hope that the area’s proximity to the clubbing districts of Rimini and Riccione, combined with its untapped potential for mass tourism and large-scale events, will make it a strategic location for the festival.

The festival attracted attendees from across Italy and abroad. With its potential to draw tourists visiting the Adriatic beaches, Adriatic Sound aspires to become a significant European event.
