Sweet Home Alabama (2002) – Watch Guide & Style

by Archynetys News Desk

The other day I came across the movie Stylish Thing as a recommendation for viewing on Rutube. I remember that I already watched it once, but I don’t remember the plot. In general, I can quickly forget films and books. I decided to take a look.

There are a number of Hollywood actors whose films usually make me happy. The film is quite old, 2002. Starring Reese Witherspoon (Melanie), Patrick Dempsey (Andrew), Josh Lucas (Jake). The plot of the film is that a young successful socialite is engaged to an eligible bachelor, but there is only one problem – she is already married. She goes to her small hometown to ask for a divorce from her ex-husband. This married couple clearly had not met for a long time. Melanie has changed, and Jake’s life has changed – he has a successful business. The relationship is tense and Jake does not want to give a divorce. Both heroes are trying to annoy each other in every possible way. As the film progresses, we realize that their story has a very sad memory – many years ago they lost their child. Because of this tragedy, the failed mother decided to radically change her life and left for New York, leaving her husband. By the time Reese Witherspoon’s character receives permission to divorce, the thought creeps into her head that she has feelings for her ex-husband. But the wedding is planned, the dress is there, the guests are invited. When the moment comes for the newlyweds to say YES to each other in front of the altar, ironically, a lawyer appears who reports that the ex-husband signed the divorce papers, but the wife who initiated it forgot. Sometimes we lack a sign to make a decision. So for Melanie, this news became a sign of fate that she should stay with her ex-husband. She leaves her fiancé and rushes to Jake to confess her feelings, which of course are mutual. So what, there won’t be a wedding!? It will be better, there will be a celebration of love, where guests will drink to true love, eat a gorgeous cake and believe in the best)
The film is naive and awkward. For some reason, while watching it, there is a feeling similar to Spanish shame. Visually, the picture is also not pleasing; Reese Witherspoon does not suit this image. Films where she is very young for me – The Power of Fear and Cruel Intentions. So she looks completely girly, tender, young. If we take the same Legally Blonde, then she is super attractive, memorable, bright, and I would probably like to see her in this film in an image that would leave the same impression. In general, Reese gets better and better with age. She’s growing up, and she’s clearly grown as an actress.

If you have nostalgia for the films of those years, then I recommend watching it. But from my point of view, it does not represent any special value; it is unlikely to be included in the collection of loved ones. Look at it once.
