Summer Camp Registration Opens – January 20

The Montgomery County Recreation Department is preparing for another exciting summer of camps designed to keep children active and entertained. Registration for the camps will begin on Tuesday, January 20 at 6:30 am for those who live in the county. Those who do not live in the county will be able to register starting Thursday, January 22.

“Summer camps play a fundamental role in childhood by providing opportunities for learning, friendship and adventure,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich.

“The Montgomery County Recreation Department offers numerous high-quality, affordable and accessible camps that help children stay active, discover new interests and enjoy the outdoors in a safe environment. We encourage families to plan ahead and register their children, as these programs fill up quickly.”

The Recreation Department offers a wide selection of half-day and full-day camps throughout the county, including:

  • Artes
  • Danza
  • Music
  • Special interests (business and entrepreneurship, cooking)
  • Sports (basketball, martial arts, skateboarding, soccer, volleyball)
  • Science, technology, engineering and mathematics
  • Youth Leadership (Student Service Learning (SSL) opportunities available)
  • Therapeutic recreation

“The Recreation Department’s summer camps are built on the experience and dedication of our staff, who work tirelessly to create safe, enriching and fun experiences for every child,” said Recreation Department Director Gabe Albornoz.

“Last summer, we proudly served more than 7,000 campers, and we look forward to continuing to offer camp programs that strengthen our community and support families.”

Applications are now being accepted for Rec Assist 2026. The Department of Recreation’s financial assistance program offers those who live in the county public assistance if eligible with the opportunity to earn a $400 scholarship for each eligible family member, which can be used toward part of the cost of the programs.

Families can register for camps using the ActiveMONTGOMERY.org website. Assistance will be available at the Recreation administrative office (2425 Reedie Drive, 10th Floor, Wheaton) beginning at 6:30 am on the day of registration. You can also call the customer service team at 240-777-6840.
