Students empties the shelves: – chaos

by Archynetys News Desk

In short

Students have occupied universities and colleges, which has led to increased activity in grocery stores during sponsorship week.

In Bergen, especially at Rema 1000 Nygårdsgaten, the sale of goods such as Red Bull, snuff, and alcohol has shot in the weather.

Extra Håkonsgaten also experiences a large increase, with up to 1200 customers per hour, mainly students.

Stores in Trondheim and Oslo also notice increased pressure, with a significant increase in the sale of alcohol and energy drinks.

The summary is made of chatgpt and approved by DinSide.

This week, students entered universities and colleges across the country. With that, one of the most festive weeks of the year, the so -called “sponsor week”, was also kicked off.

The festive conditions are also felt in several grocery stores.

Especially in what many are called “Norway’s most popular student city”, Bergen, it has been busy in the grocery stores in recent days.

At Rema 1000 Nygårdsgaten, there are some goods in particular that are “demolished” out of the shelves.

– Red Bull, snuff, powerade, frozen pizza, and of course alcohol. That’s what it goes down most, says merchant Karoline Skare Engelsen to DinSide.

The store is centrally located in the “western capital”, and just off the University of Bergen.

– We have had a summer where all the students have been gone, so now we notice that they are coming back, and there has been a big increase. It’s great fun.

The English explains that the store is somewhat smaller in size, but these days they have doubled the number of customers, thanks in large part to the sponsor groups coming in.

– We have gone from around 1000 to 2000 customers a day. For our part, this is probably the best week of the year.

With only two boxes, it can quickly get cramped.

– There has been some queue, but the students are so nice that it goes away quickly, she boasts.

She explains that they have sold up to 8,000 units with alcohol in recent days. Demand has been so great that they have had to store the goods on the milk keel, to keep it cold and rated to refill.

The store in the center of Bergen also noticed the students’ march already before last weekend.

– Then many came with their parents, and we noticed a large increase in the sale of detergent and spices. It surprised me a bit, but there are goods that do not go out of date, which the parents probably helped a little to shop for them.

Avisa BA wrote about the case first.

Cramped between the shelves

Extra Håkonsgaten is located in the middle between the University of Bergen and Torgallmenningen, possibly by what can be said to be in the middle of the butterfly eye for the students who are currently traveling around at various sponsorship events.

– In the busiest hours we have had up to 1200 customers per hour. I would say that is a high number, says store manager Sigbjørn Jacobsen Eide to DinSide.

Although the store is somewhat larger than the former, there has still been packed between the shelves here in recent days as well.

– It has been cramped in the beer department. They often come in large pools, so it is almost impossible to work in those zones then, he says and laughs.

The increase in both customers and sales figures over the past week is precisely the particular students who have been responsible for.

– We tend to say that it is May 16 every day during this week.

14,000 units

Nor is there any doubt at the Extra store what the sponsor groups are looking for.

– We have had a fixed in the alcohol department all the time. There are mostly three pieces that fill in all the time, he says, and continues:

– It has been mostly of Hansa Seltzer with apple flavor, but we are able to maintain demand with daily deliveries.

Until Thursday morning, the store had sold about 14,000 units of alcohol. That is, about the same as three units per minute.

The store manager predicts that the sale will not go first.

– Alcohol alone we have sold for around 800,000. It is undoubtedly the million.

In addition, there is a lot of chips, soft drinks, frozen pizza and other lubricated ready -made food here as well.

– There we fill up, and then it empties just as fast.

– it’s chaos

At Bunnpris Samfundet in Trondheim, which is just off NTNU and the popular student association Studentersamfundet in Trondhjem, they are used to visiting just students throughout the year.

But these days, this customer group is particularly well marked, according to merchant Andreas Grande.

– The sponsorship week is always busy. It’s chaos, he exclaims.

Usually, they sell typical as fast ready -made foods and energy drinks, but sales of alcohol are increasing significantly these days.

– The turnover of beverages increases by around 30 per cent when this week a year comes. It’s almost like we need a fixed person to refill and replenish these items, Grande says, adding:

– But energy drinks also increase, even though there is a lot going on all year. Many people may use it as mixed water, or when they are tired the next day, he suggests.

– More traction

The same goes for Kiwi Waldemar Thranes gate in Oslo, where beer, cider, snacks, ready -made foods and just mineral water are among the most popular items.

– It is well noticed in every way, especially considering that the store is in the middle between OsloMet and one of the city’s most popular parks – St Hanshaugen, says assistant store manager Jaouad Said.

He explains that sponsor week is one of the store’s biggest and most hectic weeks throughout the year.

– It is more like customer compared to a regular week. There are many (new) students and sponsorship groups that come in daily this week, while adding that they will start preparations already in the summer before to be well equipped.
