LONDON (Reuters) – British Prime Minister Starmer said on Wednesday that Europe is strong and will defend its values of freedom and democracy. He refuted US President Donald Trump’s comments, referring to European political leaders, saying, “They are weak. They just want ‘political correctness.’ They don’t know what to do.”
Mr Starmer told parliament: “I see a strong Europe, united and supporting Ukraine, sharing long-standing values of freedom and democracy. I will always defend those freedoms.”
In its National Security Strategy (NSS), which serves as the basic policy for foreign affairs and security, the Trump administration stated that Europe is facing the “annihilation of civilization” and may lose its status as a reliable ally of the United States in the future. There is widespread confusion over the criticism of Europe as anti-democratic.
