Scammers are targeting Spotify customers. They want to steal users’ personal data using an email supposedly from the streaming service.

Criminals are currently trying to get sensitive information from Spotify users. To do this, the fraudsters send a fake email to members of the well-known streaming service, as the consumer advice centers report.

In the message, the criminals claim that there are difficulties in debiting the subscription fees. The recipients of the email should therefore update their payment details via a link in the message. Such redirects are a common way for fraudsters to obtain confidential information.

According to consumer advocates, the email’s presentation is unprofessional, which is a hallmark of such scam messages. What is particularly noticeable is the lack of a personal salutation, they say. In addition, the salutation is missing in the email, which is another indication that it is an attempted fraud.

“We recommend that you always move unanswered emails like this to the spam folder and not follow up on any requests,” the consumer advocates continued. Spotify customers could also check the streaming service’s app or its website to see whether there are similar requests there.

When phishing, criminals try to get personal information from their victims, such as name, email address, passwords or birthday. They can either sell this data on the dark web or use it themselves to log into online accounts such as the bank account and plunder it. Identity theft can also be committed using personal information.
