Shortly after the price increase of the premium tariff and the introduction of the basic subscription, Spotify still does not introduce a high-resistant option, but the option of sending direct messages from the app.
Spotify goes Social
As Spotify explains, users should use the direct message function to share music, podcast and audiobook recommendations without having to leave the app. According to the provider, the news function will be introduced in “Selected markets” over the course of this week and should be available on mobile devices for free and premium users aged 16 and over.
According to Techcrunch, the news function is initially introduced in Latin and South America. In the course of the coming weeks, it will be made available in the USA, Canada, Brazil, the EU, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand.

The new news function is seamlessly integrated into the Spotify app and can be called up by tapping on the share symbol when listening to a song, podcast or audio book. Here you can choose a friend or contact to whom you want to send the content.

Spotify users can share content and send messages to people with whom they share a Spotify tariff. Direct messages can also be sent to other users with whom you have previously interacted via Spotify – for example via jams, blends and collaborative playlists.
Official messages should be checked
According to Spotify, the new function should not be replaced by text messages that are already shared by text messages, social media such as Tiktok, Instagram or Snapchat and messaging services by third-party providers. Audio content that is shared with or by the user end up in a inbox that users can access their profile picture in the upper left corner of the app.
The messages between users support emoji reactions and, according to Spotify, are protected by “industry-friendly encryption”. Users can also accept or reject or reject any messages, as well as block other users or completely park the function. If users receive offensive messages or content, you can hold the respective message down to mark suspicious content. Spotify indicates that messages are proactively checked for “certain illegal and harmful content” and checks reported by users.
