Sporting qualified this Tuesday for the final four of the 2025/26 Football League Cup, by beating Alverca 5-1 in Alvalade, with two teenagers scoring twice, in the first meeting of the quarter-finals of the competition.

Geovany Quenda scored in the 21st and 58th minutes and debutant Salvador Blopa, also 18 years old, scored in the 30th and 70th, in a game in which Rui Borges also made his first team debut in Flávio Gonçalves, Chris Grombahi and Rayan Lucas. Ioannidis scored the fifth, at 81, and Sandro Lima reduced it, at 85.

The Leonine team, runners-up in 2024/25, have already won the League Cup on four occasions (2017/18, 2018/19, 2020/21 and 2021/22), remaining in second place in the competition’s ranking, with half of the Benfica scepter holder’s eight trophies.

The final four of the 2025/26 edition of the League Cup will take place in Leiria, from January 6th to 10th, 2026, with Sporting facing in the semi-finals the winner of the clash between FC Porto and Vitória de Guimarães, which will only take place on December 4th.
