As part of the Carinthian indoor swimming championships in the Drautal Perle, there were exciting competitions and a special award on the program. At the ceremonial opening, the municipality of Spittal and the Carinthia State Swimming Association honored the outstanding performance of Spittal swimmer Heiko Gigler. Gigler was honored for his bronze medal in the 100 meter individual medley at the European Short Course Championships.
“With his performance, Heiko Gigler is a strong sporting figurehead for the city and a role model for young talent in the region,” emphasizes Mayor Gerhard Köfer, who gave the successful athlete 500 euros in the form of Spittaler City Talers as a sign of recognition. These were handed over in his name by Vice Mayor Angelika Hinteregger.
Gold shower for Spittal’s swimming team
The Spittal swimming club then impressed with outstanding performances at the indoor championships. In total, the athletes were able to win an impressive 77 medals – including 40 gold.
Heiko Gigler, Marijana Jelic, Leon Trattler, Mara Kabusch, Ilena Striednig, Sophia Kendi, Tanja Kendi, Carina Bodner, Sophia Egger and Adalea Enders were happy about a Carinthian championship title. In the master class, Thomas Stefan secured the national championship title.
Julia Salcher and Samina Pech made a big impression in the youth sector: they each won a championship title in the 9 to 11 year old age group.
The swimming club would like to thank the Drautalperle for the excellent training conditions and coach Alexandre Deblaise, who supports the athletes on their successful path.
