Spain Beats Georgia: 2026 World Cup Qualification Boost

by Archynetys World Desk

The Spanish soccer team took one more step towards the 2026 World Cup this Saturday. Luis de la Fuente‘s men want to get the ticket to the event in Mexico, the United States and Canada on the fast track and this was demonstrated in a match against Georgia that they dominated from start to finish and resolved with no troublebut without taking advantage of all the opportunities they had to score (2-0).

The match script was written before the initial whistle sounded. Possession and dominance for La Roja and Numantine defense of the Georgian team at Martínez Valero.

Pedro Porro would start the gunpowder. The man from Extremadura started very actively from the right wing and launched dangerous crosses into the rival area. And not only because of the great finishers he has among his teammates, but also because some of those deliveries he poisoned himself with great danger towards Mamarsdashvili’s goal.

The first option to go ahead came early for Spain (6′), or at least that’s what it seemed like. when Ferran Torres fell on the frontnarrowly inside the area, knocked down by a rival defender. The referee signaled a foul, but the replay screamed a penalty. In the end, after a VAR review that seemed to have an obvious result, The referee surprised by ruling out any type of infraction.

The jug of cold water did not make Luis de la Fuente’s men lower their arms, far from it. The siege continued with shots from Zubimendi (13′), Oyarzabal (18′) and Pedri (21′), of course, none between the three sticks, since the first of the entire match that was well directed was the one that went into the goal.

Yeremi Pino scored it, but the credit went first to Pedri, with a great vertical cross in the heart of the area and, later, to Le Normand who connected it as he fell to turn it into the pass of death to the Canary Islands winger (24′). The goal encouraged Spain to seek the second on the waterlogged grass of the Martínez Valero Stadium and it could soon arrive, as Ferran fell in the area, knocked down by Mamardashvili, and the referee, on this occasion that seemed less clear than the previous one, did signal a maximum penalty. The expert, Oyarzabal, gave it to Ferran. The culé was not fine, he did not adjust it and the Liverpool goalkeeper guessed the direction.

Pedro Porro and Merino insisted to extend the advantage before the break, but they did not hit the target against a Georgia that stretched slightly and tried, without success, to launch one of its very dangerous counters. Merino, just before the break, had it back in his boots, but after a cutback that left his marker and Mamardashvili himself sitting, defined very high above the crossbar when the occasion seemed like a goal or a goal.

The first half was good, but the start of the second was even better. Oyarzabal stood in the one-on-one situation and shot in a very quick play aborted by Mamardashvili with a providential save (46′). Then Ferran hit a shot into the side of the net, followed by a double post in the same play with shots from Pedro Porro and Oyarzabal himself.

Spain was looking forward to the goal, a goal that would come from a very dangerous foul from the front. Pedro Porro feinted and Oyarzabal kicked the ball with all his strength to turn it into an unstoppable shell that slipped through the post defended by Mamardashvili. Simply unstoppable.

With the advantage doubled, Luis de la Fuente relaxed and decided to save his legs for the match against Bulgaria next Tuesday. He brought on Baena, Borja Iglesias, Pablo Barrios, Llorente and Aleix García to rest Oyarzabal, Pedri, Zubimendi, Pedro Porro and Yeremi Pino. Georgia did the same, knowing the beating that Türkiye was giving Bulgaria (1-6 final result), He reserved his stars for the crucial match against the Ottomans that could settle the fight for the second place that gives access to the play-offs.

There was little else until the final whistle. A shot from midfield that did not surprise Unai Simón and a cross shot by Ferran that Mamardashvili saved. The ‘Shark’ would leave Elche without the desired goal award, but with a great contribution in a victory for La Roja that places our team very close to that long-awaited place for the World Cup. On Tuesday, against Bulgaria, it could be sealed.
