Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is closing its affiliated studio Bluepoint Games and reducing its workforce by about 70 people.
BluePoint Games is scheduled to officially close next month, according to a Bloomberg report. Founded in Austin, Texas, USA in 2006, this studio has made a name for itself by remastering and remaking classic titles for the latest platforms. He participated in the production of ‘God of War Collection’, ‘Metal Gear Solid HD Collection’, and ‘Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection’, and also played a support role in porting work such as ‘Flower’ and ‘Titanfall’.
In particular, its technology was recognized for the remake of ‘Wanda and the Colossus’ in 2018 and the remake of ‘Demon’s Souls’, a PlayStation 5 launch title in 2020, and based on those achievements, Sony acquired the company in 2021 and incorporated it into the first-party system.
However, Herman Hulst, CEO of PlayStation Studio, explained the reason for the studio’s closure by saying that the sustainability of game development is becoming increasingly difficult in the current market structure, citing rising development costs, slowing industry growth, changes in user consumption patterns, and worsening macroeconomic environments.
Meanwhile, Sony is continuing to reorganize its organization, starting with the layoff of approximately 900 PlayStation personnel and the closure of the London studio in 2024, and the restructuring of Bungie and the liquidation of Firework Studio.
