The upcoming XIII Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Celebration is
generating significant buzz online, with many expressing frustration and
calling for changes to the ticket sales process. While some are accusing
speculators and demanding a sales overhaul, others are questioning the
feasibility of satisfying everyone and whether the organizers have already
done their utmost.

Public Opinion Divided Over Ticket Access

The debate has been ongoing for days, fueled by disappointment over missed
opportunities to attend the concerts. Many who failed to secure tickets
feel the current system is unfair.

At the same time, there are those who disagree, emphasizing that there is
a place as much as it is, and that it is only normal that there are
people who were not on tickets.

Suggestions for betterment are abundant, prompting reflection on alternative
sales methods that could yield better results.

The celebration includes 22 events, with 10 offered free of charge and 12
requiring tickets. Approximately 95% of tickets were available to the
public, with 3% allocated for pre-sale reservations and less then 1%
reserved as invitations for guests and festival staff.

Concerns have been raised about the number of invitations, but organizers
maintain that this figure is already at the minimum allowable level,
representing a small fraction of the total tickets.

Prioritizing Children’s Well-being

Inga Vasilyeva, the head of the festival’s action group, notes a surge in
interest compared to 2015 when tickets remained available until the event
started. This year,tickets for the closing concert and folk dance
performances,including rehearsals,sold out rapidly.

Specifically, 29,000 tickets were sold for the closing concert and 28,000
for the folk dance concerts. It’s critically important to note that two-thirds of the
seats for the closing concert rehearsal are reserved for participating
children.

According to Inga Vasilyeva, “for example, the Daugava Stadium capacity is
less than 10,000 seats. We have two concerts and a general rehearsal.
There are just over 18,000 participants.”

The schedule and number of concerts are carefully planned to ensure the
well-being and safety of the participating children.

Ticket System Functionality

Jānis Ķuzulis, Chairman of the Board, explains that various ticket
distribution methods were considered, including lotteries and first-come,
first-served systems.

The current system functioned technically without issues. While some users
reported inconsistencies in ticket availability times, Kuzulis clarifies
that the algorithm places all interested buyers in a queue at the start of
sales. Alternative methods like lotteries would raise questions about
purchase limits, pricing, and seat allocation.
