Adding to the excitement, 21-year-old Rishit Nathwani and 14-year-old Deepika Vijay delivered stunning performances, clinching victories in the men’s class 5 and women’s class 4 categories, respectively. These unexpected wins highlight the depth of talent present at the Khelo India Para Games.

Sonben patel’s journey is a testament to resilience and determination. Afflicted by polio at a young age, which affected both her legs and right hand, resulting in 90% disability, Patel refused to let her condition define her. Her bronze medal win at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022 was a significant milestone. Now, securing a second consecutive gold at the Khelo India Para Games further solidifies her status as a role model.
Khelo India Para Games 2025 not only participate but winning gold is an incredible experience for the second consecutive time. I have never allowed my disability to interrupt the path of my success, and I am proud of it.

The powerlifting competition at the Khelo India Para Games 2025 was marked by exceptional displays of strength and determination, resulting in four new national records.Jaspreet kaur (45 kg), Manish Kumar (54 kg), Seema Rani (61 kg), and Jhandu Kumar (72 kg) each set new benchmarks in their respective weight categories, showcasing the growing standards in para-powerlifting.

pradeep june of Haryana continued his winning streak, securing his second consecutive gold medal at the Khelo India para Games by lifting an impressive 194 kg in the 107+ kg weight category. June’s journey is notably inspiring, having transitioned from working in the fields to becoming a national para-powerlifting champion after an accident led to the amputation of his leg.
I was working in the field, when the nerves were damaged in my leg in an accident. Due to lack of proper treatment, my leg had to be cut. I remained in depression for six months, but my friend Jaideep encouraged me and connected me with powerlifting, which gave me a new identity.

Saista’s Golden Comeback
Delhi’s Saista,a silver medalist in the previous edition,achieved gold this time around,lifting 81 kg in the 79 kg weight category.A childhood injury that permanently damaged her knee did not deter her.Rather, she channeled her energy into powerlifting, transforming her perceived weakness into a source of strength.
I accepted it over time. Earlier I just wanted to make biceps,but then I came to know of paragraph powerlifting and it became my goal. After winning gold in the National Championship,now it is a big stop for my career to win gold in Khelo India. The next target is Paralympics.
