Driving Towards a Zero-Emissions Future: GM’s Software Deployment Team Expansion

General Motors (GM) is actively recruiting a dedicated and skilled Software Deployment Engineer to join its ranks. This role is pivotal in realizing GM’s “ZERO ZERO ZERO” vision, focusing on zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion.The selected individual will be instrumental in ensuring the software integrity of GM’s vehicle fleet.

The Software Deployment Team plays a crucial role in maintaining a high-fidelity fleet from a software outlook. Their responsibilities include flashing vehicles, capturing infotainment and audio logs, and assisting in root cause analysis. They also contribute to tool advancement and validation, ensuring the seamless operation of GM’s advanced automotive technologies.

This position is categorized as hybrid, requiring the successful candidate to report onsite at the GM Global Technical Center – STC – training Center at least three times per week minimum or other frequency dictated by the business.

Responsibilities of the Software Deployment Engineer

The Software Deployment Engineer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:

  • Organizing, planning, and coordinating activities of junior engineers.
  • Mentoring and guiding junior engineers,fostering a collaborative and innovative team habitat.
  • Collaborating with technical specialists to resolve flashing issues.
  • contributing to the continuous improvement of team workflows and processes to enhance efficiency.
  • Managing and leading multiple projects and assignments with a high degree of autonomy and accountability.
  • Capturing BUS logs and assisting in troubleshooting efforts.
  • adhering to all safety precautions and requirements, prioritizing safety in all work activities.
  • Completing special assignments as needed.
  • operating a motor vehicle legally on a regular basis.

The role requires a presence in the office Monday through Friday, with potential for work-from-home days when feasible.

essential Skills and Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in an automotive environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and interaction skills for effective collaboration with team members and business associates.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally to drive issue resolution.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work and lead with minimal supervision, prioritizing assignments and multitasking effectively under time constraints.
  • Complete understanding of major automotive systems and subsystems.
  • Knowledge of serial data communications.
  • understanding of flashing processes.
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of relevant technologies such as Infotainment, Active Safety, and Cybersecurity.
  • Ability to work from various locations, including the Milford Proving Grounds, Warren Reflash Center, and other remote sites as required.

While not required, the following qualifications will provide candidates with a competitive advantage:

  • Experience in vehicle development, calibration, integration, and diagnostics.
  • Understanding of the GM software release process.
  • Solid understanding of the GM development process.
  • Solid understanding of Functional safety.
  • Good understanding of Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
  • Familiarity with GM software architecture and flashing techniques.

Compensation and Benefits

GM offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package to its employees.

  • Compensation: The expected base compensation for this role ranges from $75,000 to $119,000. Actual compensation will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
