Some flurry chances; snow showers expected overnight in south-central Pennsylvania

Scattered snow showers and isolated snow squalls are possible, mainly between midnight and 4 a.m. A calmer & chilly weekend is on tap, then an unsettled pattern is expected next week.

WGAL NEWS EIGHT. A CHILLY END TO THE YEAR AND A CHANCE FOR A FEW SNOW SHOWERS AS WE GO INTO TONIGHT FOR THE RING IN 2026 COULD LEAD TO SOME SNOW SQUALLS AS WELL. ACROSS THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. AND THEN TOMORROW IT’S WINDY AND COLD TO START OFF THE YEAR, IT’S GOING TO FEEL LIKE THE TEENS ALL DAY TOMORROW. IF YOU’RE GOING TO BE HEADING OUT, THEN AN UNSETTLED WEATHER PATTERN WILL RETURN NEXT WEEK. IT COULD OFFER US A CHANCE FOR SOME RAIN AND SNOW SHOWERS FOR THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY, INCLUDING IN LANCASTER THIS EVENING. GOT A LOT OF CLOUD COVER ACROSS THE AREA. TEMPERATURES AT THE MOMENT 31 DEGREES IN LANCASTER. IT FEELS LIKE 22 THOUGH BECAUSE OF THAT WIND OUT OF THE SOUTHWEST AT TEN MILES PER HOUR. AND THAT’S THE SAME THING ACROSS THE ENTIRE AREA HERE FEELS THE TEMPERATURE ITSELF IS IN THE UPPER 20S AND LOW 30S, 30 DEGREES IN SHIPPENSBURG, AS WELL AS CASHTOWN 31, IN CARLISLE, 32 IN GREENCASTLE, DOVER AND HARRISBURG, BOTH AT 3130 IN ELIZABETHTOWN AND EPHRATA. BUT IT FEELS LIKE THE LOW 20S OUT THERE BECAUSE OF A LITTLE BIT OF A BREEZE. THE TEMPERATURES THEMSELVES DO NOT CHANGE OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS, AND THEN AFTER MIDNIGHT, WE DO SEE THOSE SNOW SHOWERS ROLL IN ACROSS THE AREA, COULD SEE SOME ISOLATED SNOW SQUALLS OUT OF THAT. THAT WOULD LEAD TO SOME SLICK TRAVEL CONDITIONS. SO JUST BE AWARE OF THAT, ESPECIALLY IF YOU’RE IN OUR NORTHWESTERN COMMUNITIES, YOU HAVE THE BEST CHANCE TO SEE SOME SNOW SQUALLS HERE. IT WILL LEAD TO SLICK DRIVING CONDITIONS IF YOU GET UNDER ONE OF THEM TOMORROW. PARTLY SUNNY, WINDY AND COLD. FEELS LIKE THE TEENS ALL DAY TOMORROW WITH THAT WIND OUT OF NORTHWEST AROUND 10 TO 20MPH, YOUR SNOW SHOWER CHANCES WILL GO UP HERE AFTER MIDNIGHT. THEY’LL PEAK BETWEEN MIDNIGHT AND 5 A.M. YOU CAN SEE THAT, AND THEN THEY QUICKLY DROP OFF AFTER THAT. THAT’S BECAUSE IT’S REALLY JUST A NARROW BAND THAT WE’RE GOING TO BE WATCHING FOR HERE. BUT THAT NARROW BAND, AGAIN CAN LEAD TO SNOW SQUALLS AND THEREFORE COULD LEAD TO SOME HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE A LOT OF YOU ARE GOING TO BE OUT TONIGHT AFTER CELEBRATIONS. THAT’S THE TIME WINDOW HERE IS AS YOU’RE HEADING HOME FROM NEW YEAR’S EVE CELEBRATIONS BECAUSE OF THIS COLD FRONT THAT WE’LL BE WATCHING COMING THROUGH THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY AFTER MIDNIGHT. SO WHEN WE TIME THIS OUT FOR YOU AGAIN, IT’S THAT REAL NARROW BAND THAT WE’RE GOING TO BE WATCHING. A FEW FLURRIES. NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION FOR MIFFLIN COUNTY BEFORE MIDNIGHT, BUT HERE COMES THAT BAND OF SNOW RIGHT AROUND TWO, 3:00 IN THE MORNING. YOU COULD SEE KNOCKING ON THE DOORSTEP OF DAUPHIN COUNTY, CUMBERLAND COUNTY, FRANKLIN COUNTY THERE, ALREADY PUSHED THROUGH MIFFLIN, JUNIATA AND PERRY. AND THEN FOR LANCASTER, LEBANON AND YORK COUNTY. YOU’RE A LITTLE BIT LATER, BETWEEN 3 AND 5 A.M. FOR YOU, BUT DOES LOOK LIKE EVERYBODY, FOR THE MOST PART, WILL GET A LITTLE BIT OF LIGHT SNOW OUT OF THIS AS IT COMES ON THROUGH. WE’RE TALKING A COATING TO MAYBE HALF AN INCH, SO NOT GOING TO BE ENOUGH WHERE YOU HAVE TO BRING OUT THE SHOVEL, BUT YOU MAY HAVE TO DUST IT OFF THERE WITH A BROOM AND MAYBE DUST OFF THE CAR IN THE MORNING. BUT IT’S JUST THE FACT THAT IT COULD LEAD TO SLICK TRAVEL TONIGHT, THAT WE WANT YOU TO BE AWARE OF IT TOMORROW. BREEZY, 20 TO 25 MILE PER HOUR GUSTS MAKE IT FEEL LIKE THE TEENS ALL DAY. MORNING, AFTERNOON, NIGHT. DOESN’T MATTER WHEN WE’RE GOING TO FEEL LIKE YOU’RE BELOW 20 DEGREES ALL DAY TOMORROW, AND TEMPERATURES THEMSELVES WILL NOT GET ABOVE FREEZING EITHER. SO IT’S GOING TO BE A COLD START TO THE YEAR. TOMORROW, FRIDAY A LITTLE BIT BETTER GET AROUND 32 DEGREES. STILL BREEZY THOUGH, SO IT’S GOING TO FEEL LIKE IN THE 20S ALL DAY ON FRIDAY. SATURDAY. CALMER THOUGH WITH TEMPERATURES RIGHT AROUND 32 DEGREES AND YOUR TEN DAY FORECAST. WE STAY CHILLY ON SUNDAY. WE’RE ACTUALLY BELOW AVERAGE ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND INTO NEXT WEEK. IT’S NOT UNTIL TUESDAY WE GET ABOVE AVERAGE ONCE AGAIN BACK INTO THE LOW 40S. AND SPEAKING OF NEXT WEEK, YOU CAN SEE A COUPLE CHANCES FOR MAYBE SOME FLURRIES ON MONDAY. A FEW RAIN AND SNOW SHOWERS WEDNESDAY, AND JUST IN TIME FOR THE FARM SHOW, WE COULD SEE SOME
