Head of the Panyandaan Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) kitchen, CisaruaWest Bandung, Setia Wiguna M, explains the food production process of Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) which was distributed to a number of schools, including SMPN 1 Cisarua, where the mass poisoning case occurred on Tuesday (14/10).

Setia said the cooking process had been carried out since evening to catch up with distribution time in the early morning.

“Our kitchen cooks at 11 o’clock at night, and why is it 11 o’clock at night because we are chasing time until 3 in the morning, then with the packaging process at 4 o’clock. So it ends up waiting an hour for it to cool down,” said Setia, Tuesday (14/10) evening, at the SMPN 1 Cisarua Command Post.

According to him, the SPPG Panyandaan kitchen serves thousands of portions every day. Its operations are also supported by several suppliers.

“For today at 3.649,” he said.

In providing raw materials, his party collaborates with three different suppliers, consisting of one cooperative and two other suppliers for ingredients such as rice, eggs and chicken meat. Regarding chicken meat that smells like carrion, Setia admitted that his party is still carrying out evaluations.

“Actually, we are still evaluating chicken meat. But when the goods arrived, they were good, fresh. And the management of the preparations is still good too. Because I myself also check in the middle of the night. “We were also in the field checking the condition of the chicken meat and it really smelled like that,” he explained.

Setia emphasized that his party has been trying to ensure that raw materials are in good condition before processing.

“For the raw materials themselves, especially meat, it’s very difficult for me. I want the highest quality, the best and won’t smell when it arrives. So for processing we clean it immediately, without waiting,” he explained.

It is known that SPPG Panyandaan Kitchen has been operating since February 24 2024, or almost eight months. However, until now, the kitchen has not received a Sanitation Hygiene Certificate (SLHS).

“We have ordered the certificate to be scheduled for October 21 (new training),” said Setia.

He also explained the menu that was distributed to schools on the day of mass poisoning, such as white rice, black pepper chicken, fried tofu, stir-fried broccoli and melon.

Previously, 132 students at SMPN 1 Cisarua were poisoned after eating MBG with complaints that the chicken menu smelled like carcasses.

The Regent of West Bandung opens his voice

West Bandung Regent Jeje Ritchie Ismail said the incident in Cisarua was the second time this had happened in the West Bandung area. Previously, a similar case also occurred in Cipongkor District with more than a thousand victims.

Even though the number of victims reached hundreds, Jeje stated that he would not yet determine the status of an Extraordinary Event (KLB).

“Currently I have not decided whether to have KLB status. Because the recovery is faster than in Cipongkor. What is certain is that our focus from the Regional Government is that treating patients is the most important thing for us,” he said at the SMPN 1 Cisarua Command Post.

Meanwhile, regarding the MBG food supply kitchen used in the program at SMPN 1 Cisarua, Jeje admitted that he had not had time to inspect it directly.

“I haven’t yet check go straight to the location. I want to Also go there to get a better idea of what the kitchen is like. “What is certain is that maybe the kitchen will be stopped first,” he said.
