Police and soldiers are continuing their search for 57-year-old Tadeusz Duda, now for the fifth day, after he was named as the primary suspect in the murders that occurred last Friday of his 26-year-old daughter and a 31-year-old. He is also suspected of the attempted murder of his mother-in-law.
According to well-known Polish detective Krzysztof Rutkowski,”Tadeusz Duda could use his knowledge of the area and hide in Slovakia, unluckily,he can feel safe there.” The crime scene is located approximately 30 km from the Polish-Slovak border.
Search Extends beyond Poland’s Borders
Rutkowski, who runs a detective agency, has voiced his concern that the Polish Prosecutor’s Office has not yet issued a European arrest warrant for Duda. Following the murders, witnesses reported seeing Duda fleeing towards a nearby forest. rutkowski believes that enough time has passed that Duda could have already crossed into Slovakia.
The detective stressed, “I am surprised that the prosecutor’s office did not ask the court to issue a European arrest warrant, as it is a purely cosmetic act. All the more because it is a person who is hidden in the border area. Therefore, it should have been done almost automatically.”
Polish authorities issued a warning on Tuesday stating that anyone found assisting or harboring Duda could face up to five years in prison.
schengen Area Facilitates Potential Escape
The deployment of soldiers in the search for a suspect is unusual in Poland. The search efforts have included the use of a Black Hawk helicopter, a Bayraktar military drone, and specially trained dogs. Rutkowski argues that without a European arrest warrant, Duda could easily move within the Schengen area.
Rutkowski stated, “If it has money, it could be Slovakia and further Hungary. At the moment, it has a free way.”
He added, “After Tadeusz Duda, there is practically no trace to date. It is very incomprehensible to me that if there was an armed confrontation between duda and cops, why someone did not take a night vision drone, thermal imagination that could capture his character and would be without problems.”
“Tadeusz Duda is wholly persistent, he knows what he is at risk. He knows that he will spend the rest of his life behind bars.”
A Game of Cat and Mouse
Rutkowski compared Duda’s evasion of the police to the tactics used by Pablo Escobar, who famously attached his phone to a donkey to mislead authorities. “This is a kind of game,” Rutkowski said. “Tadeusz Duda is completely determined, he knows what he is at risk. He knows that he will spend the rest of his life behind bars.”
Rutkowski believes that the longer the search continues, the more the situation risks becoming politicized. “Time is working against us because we are the ones who pay for this police action,” he concluded.
In the wake of the double murder, misinformation has been circulating. Police have refuted claims that they discovered a list of intended victims in Duda’s residence.
Law enforcement officials have urged the media to avoid spreading unverified data to prevent unneeded public alarm during this sensitive time. tourists and residents have been cautioned against entering the forests surrounding Limanowa.
Authorities are searching not only forests but also abandoned buildings and residences.Vehicle checkpoints have been set up on roads in the area.
