By defending oil as a pillar of energy sovereignty, Sheinbaum Pardo this Sunday ruled out any intervention by the United States in Mexico, after President Donald Trump affirmed that the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in his own country was also a message to other governments in the hemisphere that do not combat the problem of drug trafficking.

“No, they already know that this is not an option for us, but that we are collaborating,” responded the president when questioned by the press during the supervision of the Tula Refinery, in Hidalgo.

Previously, the president was asked about the importance of defending oil in the current international context.

“Very important. Energy sovereignty is fundamental for national sovereignty, very important. And now a lot of progress has been made in oil products, gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and we have to continue advancing in gas, natural gas,” he answered.

Questioned about Trump’s statements, the president announced that she would address this issue in the morning conference this Monday; However, he was insisted on the possibility of Mexico modifying its foreign policy and aligning itself with Washington.

“No, I believe that the same team of President Trump and President Trump said it. It is a moment of collaboration on different issues and particularly on the issue of security,” he remarked.

-Does he insist on the intervention, President? -he questioned himself.

“No, they already know that this is not an option for us, but that we are collaborating. That the most important thing is shared responsibility as well. That is, we avoid and address insecurity in Mexico, violence. And we prevent drugs from reaching the United States. And they must also prevent weapons from reaching Mexico. And combat the organized crime that operates in the United States,” he said.

He also ruled out that there are reports of Mexicans affected in Venezuela after the US military intervention and sent a message to the Venezuelan community in Mexico. “Our solidarity is always with the people of Venezuela,” he said.

On Saturday, Trump was questioned in an interview with Fox News about whether the military operation against Venezuela was sending a message to Mexico; He responded that “it was not the intention,” although he added that “something will have to be done” in the face of the power of the cartels, and stated that with President Claudia Sheinbaum “we are very friendly, she is a good woman, but the cartels rule in Mexico. She does not rule in Mexico…”.

“She is very afraid of the cartels… I have asked her numerous times if she would like us to get rid of the cartels, and she has said no. Something will have to be done with Mexico,” he concluded.
