The transition period for the use of electronic patient files for doctors ends
For all legally insured persons, an electronic patient file was set up by the health insurance companies by mid -February 2025 if there was no objection. Doctors and other service providers, however, are not yet obliged to use them in the transition phase granted to the end of September. This then changes: You have to store diagnoses, treatments and medications in the EPA from October 1st and thus make it available centrally.
The use remains voluntary for patients. If the insured person of the EPA if it has already been created, if it has been created, it is deleted. By the way: The patient decides which data can be viewed by doctors. “Nobody apart from the access to the access has access to the EPA-not even their health insurance company. Only when you add the electronic health card in the doctor’s office will you give the treating doctors an access authorization. However, this can be limited in the EPA app in terms of time and in terms of content,” the Federal Government explains on its website.
If you release a document, however, you will see it all accessible. The Federal Ministry of Health declares on the MDR request: “An access restriction for individual treatment documents per service provider is not provided. For the EPA for everyone, the availability of all information relevant to the specific treatment is decisive, exactly when it is needed.”
