Semarang Bus Crash: Death Toll Reaches 16

The death toll from the PO Cahaya Trans bus accident at the Krapyak Toll Road Exit Interchange, Semarang City has increased to 16 people. Meanwhile, 8 other people were injured.

This data was revealed by the Central Java Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Ribut Hari Wibowo, when he visited Dr Kariadi Hospital, South Semarang District, this morning. Inspector General Ribut initially expressed his condolences for the fatal accident.

“The bus accident resulted in 16 victims dying, then 8 injured. Currently the deceased victims are being buried at Dr Kariadi Hospital and at Tugu Hospital,” said Inspector General Ribut at Dr Kariadi Hospital, reported by detikJateng, Monday (22/12/2025).

Based on initial investigations, the bus driver named Gilang was a reserve driver for the PO Cahaya Trans bus.

Ribut added that the costs of treating injured victims would be fully borne by the Central Java Provincial Government. Meanwhile, the deceased victim will be immediately identified by Dr Kariadi General Hospital.

He admitted that he was still investigating the cause of the bus accident. The bus driver will be tested for urine to find out whether he has consumed drugs.

“The investigation is still being carried out, the initial suspicion is that it was a single accident. Later we will also test the driver and driver for urine. We will test whether the person concerned used drugs or contained other prohibited substances,” he said.
