Not typically one for hyperbole, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald was effusive in his praise of Sam Darnoldnoting how well the quarterback played despite being limited by an oblique injury.
“To come out the way he played for barely practicing, barely throwing the ball, is really incredible,” Macdonald said with a laugh. “It should go down as one of the best performances in playoff history, I imagine. It’s hard to stack it, but I can’t imagine anyone playing any better.”
In a follow-up question, Macdonald was asked about the narrative of Darnold making big mistakes in big games. He interrupted the reporter to say,
“Yeah, I love it. Keep talking. Everyone wants to make a narrative about this guy, but he’s been the same guy since he walked in the door,” Macdonald said. “You don’t want me writing the stories, because I would not write the narratives that are out there. I would be really boring, like, ‘This guy’s the man. And his teammates love him, and he’s competitive as crap, and he’s tough. And he’s really talented. And he’s a winner.’ That would be the story.”
He added with a smile, “So don’t let me write the story.”
