The City Council, the Cantabrian Association of Multiple Sclerosis (ACDEM) and Duin Marisma encourage citizens to participate in the activities that will take place this Sunday on the second beach of El Sardinero
Santander will get wet this Sunday, July 6 for multiple sclerosis, thus adding to the national campaign
The Councilor for Health, Zulema Gancedo, Fernando Ramos, secretary of the Association, Victor Calleja, Physiotherapist, and Celia Haro, commercial responsible for Duin Marisma, have announced the details of this event in favor of the people who suffer from this neurodegenerative disease in Spain.
The mayor has explained that ‘get over sclerosis’ will consist of a Aquagym class, at 11.30, in the second beach of the Sardinero, and another yoga in the M innkeeper, at 12.00.
“We call the neighbors to join the claims of the collective giving a solidarity and symbolic dip to claim an improvement in the quality of the care of the people affected by multiple sclerosis and the impulse to research,” he said.
Gancedo has highlighted ACDEM’s work through concrete awareness actions such as this campaign already throughout the year, offering support through different services to people suffering from multiple sclerosis and their environment.
Campaña 2025
The motto of this year 2025 is ‘My multiple sclerosis is real, I do not invent it’, which focuses on the quantity and diversity of symptoms that people with EM can experience, an average of 14 according to a recent study.
In addition, from the entity it is remembered that it is crucial to have an integral approach that not only treats the medical aspects, but also the emotional and labor challenges facing people diagnosed.
The claims of this 2025 are, among others, to obtain a more integrated, coordinated and personalized social and health system; a holistic approach that not only treats the medical aspects of the disease; Adequate improvements in access to social protection in accordance with personal circumstances and needs, mainly in terms of employment and other resources that guarantee live with dignity; and introduce as part of integral intervention, labor protection and emotional support.
The disease
Multiple sclerosis is a demyelinizing, neurodegenerative and chronic disease of the central nerve system. The immune system itself destroys myelin causing damage that interferes with the transmission of the message between the brain and different parts of the body.
There is currently no cure, there are only treatments that modify the course of the disease, delaying disability over time.
Therefore, the objective is to claim once again a greater involvement of the whole society in support for research.
At present it is estimated that there is a prevalence of 120 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, with a proportion of 3 women for each man (75% women, 25% men).
The Cantabrian Association of Multiple Sclerosis (ACDEM) is a non -profit entity declared of public utility, which aims to improve the quality of life from the promotion of personal autonomy multiple sclerosis.
