Sánchez-Vietnam: Trade, Innovation & Investment Boost

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, held a bilateral meeting this Saturday, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, with the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh, to reinforce the cooperation that both countries maintain in trade, innovation and investments.

The Chief Executive met with the Prime Minister of Vietnam and his respective teams on the sidelines of this summit in which both agreed on the need to strengthen cooperation between the EU blocs and Southeast Asia.

According to sources familiar with the meeting, both leaders agreed that the complexity of this moment can also be an opportunity to be more self-sufficient, “reinforce mutual trust and face current challenges from resilience.”

Both highlighted the opportunity to improve collaboration between both countries in areas such as trade, innovation and investments. To this meeting on the Spanish side The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, also attended.who previously held a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart about President Volodymyr Zelensky‘s recent visit to Spain.

According to the Prime Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, both leaders discussed “the efforts of the United States to end the war, the role of Europe and the continued pressure of sanctions on the aggressor,” as detailed in a message on their social networks also thanking the “firm support from Spain.”

For his part, Sánchez will also hold a meeting with the president of the European Commission, Úrsula Von der Leyen; the president of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the rest of European leaders on the margins of the G20 to coordinate a common position regarding Ukraine.

Executive sources stressed that Spain’s position on this matter is that already expressed by the president on many occasions and by the minister recently. “Peace in Ukraine, any decision about its future cannot be made behind the backs of Ukraine or the Europeans,” they stressed.

In the last few hours, there has been many contacts between the leadership teams, comparing impressions about the latest events, and Sánchez is waiting to be able to share them at the meeting.

The 28 points proposed by the US administration on peace for Ukraine involve legal, political and economic debates of different kinds. “We are studying them in order to share our impressions at the meeting,” they concluded.
