Samuel on Netflix: Release Date & Details

A new digital-to-series animation success story is ready to take off, with the news that the viral coming-of-age vignettes of Samuel will soon arrive on Netflix in the U.S. and select territories. The series’ platform premiere is set for February 5.

Created, written, directed and entirely voiced by Emilie Tronchebased on her hit TikTok and Instagram shorts, the black-and-white 2D series produced by Les Valseurs (France) and Pikkukala (Spain/Finland) was picked up by the streamer during Annecy Festival 2025.

The series unfolds through the eyes of Samuel, a boy on the cusp of adolescence, who keeps a diary of his daily life in the early 2000s as he comes to grips with the moments and experiences that mark his transition out of childhood.

Synopsis: It’s the first year of middle school. Samuel is 10 years old and has a problem: Basile says he’s in love with Julie. Samuel says it’s not true. But it is true. Samuel writes in his diary, dances in his room, and tries to understand the world of adults, friendships and love.

The x 6′ x 6′ Samuel launched on linear and digital through broadcast partners Arte (France/Germany), RTVE and TV3 (Spain) in March 2024 and swiftly became a hit in these territories, racking more than 35 million views on arte.tv and social media in under six months.
