Efforts Underway to Bolster Peace in Pakistan’s Merged Districts

Government officials engage with tribal leaders and communities in North Waziristan and Bannu to address security concerns and promote sustainable development.

PESHAWAR – Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif,the adviser to chief minister on details,emphasized the critical role of tribal leaders and local communities in maintaining peace within the merged districts. This statement was made during a series of visits aimed at assessing and improving the security situation in the region.

According to Mr. Saif, the government places important value on the involvement of tribal leaders in ongoing peace initiatives. He noted that local communities are being actively consulted to foster sustainable peace and ensure long-term stability throughout the area.

A delegation, spearheaded by Mr. Saif, recently conducted visits to Miramshah, North Waziristan, and Bannu.The delegation included Provincial Minister Pakhtun Yar, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali shah, KP police chief Zulfiqar Hameed, and other high-ranking officials. The purpose of these visits was to evaluate the current security landscape and identify opportunities for advancement.

The visits were initiated under the directives of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, with a primary focus on assessing the security situation. Civil and military officials provided detailed briefings to the delegation regarding the security dynamics in North Waziristan and its surrounding regions. The delegation also paid their respects at a martyrs’ monument, offering prayers for those who had sacrificed their lives.

“Sustainable development is not possible without peace,” Mr. Saif asserted, while also acknowledging the ancient disadvantages faced by the merged districts.

“The ultimate goal is to bring these districts at par with the rest of the province,” he added,underscoring the importance of engaging youth and tribal elders in securing lasting peace. He urged them to actively participate in maintaining peace within their communities.

Following the visit to North Waziristan, the delegation proceeded to bannu, where they received briefings from the commissioner and senior police officials on security matters and public concerns.They also engaged with tribal elders representing diverse communities in Bannu, seeking their insights and perspectives.

The delegation held meetings with local leaders, including ANP former senator Baz Mohammad Khan, JUI-F MPA Adnan Khan, and other prominent elders from Bannu City, and also leaders from the Wazir tribe. These discussions aimed to gather firsthand accounts of the challenges confronting the area and to foster collaborative solutions.

During the meetings, the elders shared their concerns and challenges with the delegation, who listened attentively to public grievances and assured the elders that their concerns would be addressed at the highest levels of government.
