SAES Safety Call: Urgent Measures Needed

The Autonomous Union of Higher Education has sounded the alert on the repetitive strikes observed at the Gaston Berger University of Saint-Louis (UGB). It was in a press release that they made this known by announcing the holding of an assembly on March 26, 2026 on the worrying educational and security situation at the UGB of Saint Louis. This follows the student strike and the deterioration of the social climate on campus. According to the professors, the University should not be a space of insecurity and permanent tension.

In this regard, “the AG requires immediate measures to guarantee the safety of people and property, a prerequisite for the smooth running of educational activities. It also requests the immediate convening of the disciplinary council so that the reported incidents can be examined in strict compliance with procedures, with a view to reestablishing the authority of the authorities and a peaceful social climate,” said the press release.

Before the AG recalls the availability of teacher-researchers to provide teaching, some of which have not yet started for the 2025-2026 academic year.

However, it recalls with the greatest firmness that the seventy-five (75) consecutive days of annual leave constitute an acquired, intangible and non-negotiable statutory right. Consequently, any rearrangement of the university calendar must strictly comply with it.

And reserves the right to take any necessary union action if staff safety and respect are not fully guaranteed.
