Russian Missile and Drone barrage Targets Ukraine

Ukrainian forces report intercepting dozens of drones and several missiles, but civilian casualties occurred in multiple regions.

Ukraine’s military says Russia launched a wave of attacks on Saturday, involving both missiles and drones. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces, the assault included five missiles and 109 drones, with Ukrainian air defenses claiming to have shot down 69 drones and three missiles.

The General Staff specified that the missiles included two S-300 anti-aircraft missiles fired from the Kursk region and three Kh-59/69 guided missiles launched from the Belgorod area. These launches originated from 19:30 on Friday through the early hours of Saturday, targeting various parts of Ukraine, including areas near the Crimean Peninsula.

The report also noted that two additional attack drones were launched from the Belgorod region. The General Staff stated that “until 08.30, the anti-aircraft defense neutralized 69 unmanned aerial vehicles Shahed enemies and other types of drones and 3 guided missiles KH-59/69 in the east, south, north and center of the country.” They added that 39 drones were destroyed, while electronic warfare suppressed another 30.

Civilian Casualties Reported

The regions of Kharkiv, Sumy, and Donetsk were heavily affected by the attacks, with impacts recorded in thirteen locations. Fatalities occurred in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. In Zaporizhzhia, a nine-year-old girl was killed, and a 16-year-old teenager was wounded in a town near the front line. Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Regional Governance, reported that a 66-year-old man died in Kherson due to Russian shelling.

On the Russian side, the governor of the Kursk region, which borders Ukraine, reported that fourteen people were injured in alleged Ukrainian drone attacks. According to governor Alexandr Jinshtein, all the injured individuals, one in serious condition, were hospitalized.
