The initiative aims to address staffing shortages in residential care facilities by making training more accessible and appealing.
In an effort to bolster the ranks of social health and socio-assistance auxiliaries, the lombardy region is allocating important funds towards training initiatives. Regional councilor for education, training and work, Simona Tironi, announced a Six million euros allocation during a conference in Brescia. The funding is intended to make training courses shorter and more attractive, addressing the current issues of high costs (2000-2,800 euros) and lengthy durations that frequently enough lead to participants dropping out for other job opportunities.
The Measurement
the initiative, spearheaded by the Department following expert consultations, will involve the publication of a notice aimed at Rsa, but also to the RSD. According to councilor Tironi, the plan is that “the structures interested in joining you to need to find new OSS and ASA…will be called to identify the staff to be nominated and to choose the accredited bodies to provide the training course. The Region will refund the 100% share. Each body can receive a maximum of 50 thousand euros for 20 people to be formed. During the course, then, internships in the same structures for the elderly or for the disabled will be planned: we consider this element fundamental to immediately retain the students.” Tironi views this as an “important step To help the RSA and the RSDs to eliminate the first obstacles in the search for staff.”
“Experience teaches us that it is indeed difficult to find candidates”
Look at the Neet
Luca Degani, president of Uneba Lombardia, supports the initiative, stating, “Only in the Brescia RSA There are at least 500 OSS and ASAwhich become a thousand if we look at the needs of other structures such as day centers and realities for the disabled. Now what is needed is to direct the appeal to young people to take this training opportunity. I think, for example, Ai Neet, that is, to young people who do not study and do not work. with this measure we can achieve three objectives: help the RSA to find staff, bring out as many young people from the condition of Neet and carry out intergenerational welfare actions.” Chiara Benini, director of three foundations, welcomes the measure but expresses concern: “I hope the allocation covers the cost of the courses even for small groups.Experience teaches us that it is difficult to find candidates.”
The Context
The ATS Brescia territory includes 91 RSA with 7,452 seats. General manager Claudio Sileo assures that “Minutage for each guest is guaranteed,” despite staffing challenges. He also noted that only 4 sanctions or warnings issued as 2023 were related to staff shortages. Sileo acknowledges the importance of RSA, stating, “This world…is especially close to us: the RSA are places of care and places of life. and our population is increasingly aging: In 10 years we will pass from 270 thousand to 290 thousand over 65. And we know that the support that families can turn to the elderly is reduced: less children are made, children live far away…”
the Project
Currently, considering Valcamonica, there are 90 RSA seats for every one thousand people over 80, with 28 thousand applications pending. Sileo also mentioned a competition to equip an RSA (within the ATS Brescia territory) of 20 “post-acute SLA” seats, funded by the Single Region in Lombardy.”Three managers have been forwarded, we will invite them to present the projects. It will be another flagship brescia.”
