Cineme of the coming summer? What Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas once embodied in the “Rose War” now play Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch: The novel “The War of Roses” by Warren Adler (1927-2019) is newly filmed. The new film with the German title “The Rose Battle” is said to be a cinema release on August 28th.
The director of the snappy comedy is Jay Roach (“My bride, her father and I”, “Bombshell – the end of silence”). Danny Devito directed in the 80s tragedy called “The Rose War”.
And that is what the film is about: The couple Ivy (Colman) and Theo (Cumberbatch), which appear perfectly outside, everything seems to be going well: careers before, the children. But a storm is brewing behind the facade. When Theo’s career suffers a kink, Ivy’s takes off steeply. Soon the cracks and hidden resentments become visible. Fireworks exploded.
