Ron Washington, manager of Los Angeles Angels, said yesterday that he is recovering from quadruple bypass surgery, being the first time he publicly addresses the health problems that have kept him on the sidelines since the end of June.

He made the announcement while visiting Los Angels for the first time from the operation, eight weeks ago in California.

He will not return to direct this season, but hopes to have that opportunity next year.

Washington, at 73, is the most veteran manager of the Major Leagues and was for the last time on the bench during a match that ended in a 7-3 defeat against the New York Yankees on June 19.

The next day, the team reported that Washington was out indefinitely due to health problems after experiencing difficulty breathing and seem fatigued towards the end of that series of four games in the Big Apple.

The doctors of the Yankees were approved to fly home with the team and underwent a series of tests when returning to southern California.

The Angels announced on June 27 that a medical license would be taken for the rest of the season. Washington underwent surgery three days later.

The dear Washington revealed the details of their medical problems before the Angels began a series of three games in Texas, where it still has a residence.

Plan to continue to Houston before skipping the last stop of the trip in Kansas City. Washington intends to be with the team for the rest of the season after they return home.

Washington is the most successful pilot of the Rangers with a 664-611 record from 2007 to 2014. He took them to their first two appearances in the World Series in 2010 and 2011.— Ap
