Rock Valley, IA Driver Killed in SD Accident | Lincoln County News

HUDSON, S.D. (Sioux County Radio) – An teenager has died following a single-vehicle crash in Lincoln County, South Dakota, and authorities say the group involved drove the injured boy into Hawarden for help.

According to Sioux County Radio, the South Dakota Highway Patrol reports that the crash happened around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, one mile southeast of Hudson, South Dakota.

Authorities say an 18-year-old Rock Valley man was driving a 2011 Ford F-250 north on 488th Avenue while pulling a man on a snowboard.

Investigators say the snowboarder fell, and as the truck stopped and began backing up, a 14-year-old boy riding in the bed of the pickup fell out and was struck. The group transported the injured teen to Hawarden Regional Healthcare, where he later died of his injuries.

A 19-year-old woman from Sioux Falls, who was riding inside the truck, was not hurt, and the driver was also uninjured. Names are being withheld pending family notification.

Authorities say charges are pending against the Rock Valley driver.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate and reports that all details released so far are preliminary.
