Ricky Saints has become the top contender for Oba FemiS NXT Championship after his victory over Josh Briggs on Tuesday’s “WWE NXT.” Saints started the show by challenging Femi, but Briggs appeared rather. “NXT” General Manager Ava then arranged the match, stating that Je’Von Evans, Femi’s Heatwave opponent, hasn’t been heard from as their controversial match on Sunday. Saints is now scheduled to compete for the title at No mercy on September 27.

The match began with Briggs aggressively taking the fight to Saints, cornering him after several throws. Saints tried to take his larger opponent off his feet,even dragging him outside the ring at one point. Briggs executed a crossbody from the ropes, but saints kicked out. When Briggs attempted the move again, Saints dodged it. Saints also countered a choke slam with a step-up enzuiguri, followed by a spear, but missed an elbow drop from the top rope. Briggs then landed a chokeslam, but Saints kicked out. Ultimately, Saints hit a tornado DDT and pinned Briggs to secure the win.

Saints is now scheduled to compete for the title at No Mercy on September 27.

Following the match,Femi and Saints were confronted by the new NXT Tag Team champions,Darkstate. Setting aside their differences, Femi and Saints engaged in a brief brawl against the faction, aided by former champions, Hank & Tank.
