Elon Musk owns over 700 billion euros – and apparently he’s still not happy. On his platform X, the richest man in the world complains that money can’t buy happiness. Reactions to his post range from pity to ridicule – some offer advice.

The US tech billionaire and richest man in the world, Elon Musk, has achieved millions of online clicks with an unusual confession: “Whoever said ‘money can’t buy happiness’ really knew what he was talking about,” Musk wrote on his Internet platform X to his almost 234 million followers. He commented with a sad emoji.

Musk’s post received more than 54 million views as of Thursday. In the richest list of the US magazine Forbes, the head of the companies SpaceX and Tesla is by far the top with an estimated fortune of more than 830 billion dollars (the equivalent of around 700 billion euros).

On X, more than 80,000 users commented on Musk’s statement. A number of people agreed with him. Others accused him of being tearful and cynical in the face of the misery in the world. Still others advised him to turn to God or donate his money: “If you spread your wealth around the world, there would be eight billion happy people,” wrote one user.

US hedge fund manager Bill Ackman also advised Musk to donate. He added: “Happiness can also be found in a long-term relationship with someone special. It’s time you found that person for life.”

Musk is a supporter of so-called pronatalism and has an unknown number of children with women from different relationships. He last appeared holding hands with venture capitalist Shivon Zilis in early February. The occasion was the wedding reception of White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino.

Musk also plays a role in the affair surrounding the late US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The tech billionaire’s name appeared several times in the Justice Department’s newly released files on Friday, apparently in emails with Epstein from 2012 to 2014. The convicted sex offender Epstein is accused of dozens of abuses of minors and young women, some of which he passed on to celebrities.

On Saturday, Musk denied personal wrongdoing on
