Riau Governor Wahid: Extortion Allegations & OTT Arrest

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said the sting operation (OTT) that ensnared the Governor of Riau, Abdul Wahid, was related to alleged extortion at the PUPR Service.

“So this alleged act of extortion is related to the budgeting of the PUPR Service,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the Red and White Building, Jakarta, Tuesday (4/11/2025).

Budi said that in this silent operation, the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) confiscated Rp. 1.6 billion in denominations in United States Dollars (US), Pound Sterling and Rupiah.

“The team also secured evidence including a sum of money in rupiah, US dollars and also Pound Sterling which, if converted into rupiah, is around Rp. 1.6 billion,” he said.

Budi added that the KPK leadership and its staff had already held a case or exposure to determine the suspect related to the OTT.

He said that the anti-corruption agency would announce the suspects and case construction on Wednesday (5/11/2025).

“However, how many have been named as suspects and who they are, we will convey tomorrow at a press conference,” he said.

Previously, the KPK arrested 10 people in a silent operation in Riau on Monday (4/11/2025).

They include the Governor of Riau Abdul Wahid, Head of the PUPR-PKPP Service Muhammad Arief Setiawan, Secretary of the PUPR-PKPP Service Ferry Yunanda, and Tata Maulana who is Abdul Wahid’s confidant.

Then, another person named Dani M. Nursalam, who is an Expert Staff for the Governor of Riau Abdul Wahid, surrendered himself on Tuesday (4/11/2025) evening.
