Every day, approximately 8,000 individuals seek assistance at one of the 35 rehabilitation centers across the nation, seeking a path toward recovery and a brighter future.

2024: A Year of Important Impact

During 2024, these rehabilitation centers delivered an remarkable 1.7 million services. Over 55,000 individuals sought help from these centers for the first time, highlighting the growing need for and accessibility of these vital resources. The commitment to eliminating economic barriers to rehabilitative care remains a core principle, ensuring that those in need can access essential services.

Financial Assistance: Breaking Down Barriers

For nearly 62 years,rehabilitation efforts have focused on removing financial obstacles that hinder access to crucial rehabilitative processes. In 2024 alone, over 56,000 individuals received exemptions for essential consultations, therapies, and treatments. Additionally, 144 people benefited from partial exemptions through payment agreements, demonstrating a commitment to making rehabilitation accessible to all.

The financial impact of these exemptions and assistance programs totaled RD $70,117,307, directly benefiting over 114,000 people through treatments, surgeries, and prostheses. This investment underscores the goverment’s dedication to supporting the well-being of its citizens.

The impact of rehabilitation extends far beyond statistics. It’s reflected in the personal stories of individuals whose lives have been profoundly changed. Each service provided represents a chance to alleviate suffering, restore dreams, regain mobility, and rebuild skills, paving the way for a more inclusive society.

Consider Mireya Peña,a 45-year-old single mother diagnosed with a degenerative spinal condition. Without access to rehabilitation services, she would have been unable to continue working and caring for her children. Without this help, I would not have had access to therapies. Today, thanks to those sessions, I can continue working, taking care and hugging my children, without the pain that previously paralyzed me, she explains.

Robotic Prostheses: A technological Leap Forward

One of the most groundbreaking achievements of 2024 was the provision of 92 robotic upper limb prostheses. These advanced devices have revolutionized the lives of recipients, notably children, granting them newfound independence and capabilities.

For example, Ariel, a 7-year-old patient, was one of 565 patients who underwent surgery in the rehabilitation surgical unit in 2024, free of charge. His father, Miguel Sosa, recounts, When they told me how much the operation cost, I thought my son would live without being able to walk. But in rehabilitation they gave me the opportunity to operate it, so today he walks again and can go after his dreams.
