Red Wings Trade: Acquire 6’8″ Canucks Defenseman

by Archynetys Sports Desk

The 2026 NHL trade deadline is quickly approaching as it is March 6. With this, NHL teams only have a little over a week to make any trade they want. One of the teams hockey fans should keep a close eye on leading up to the deadline is the Detroit Red Wings.

The Red Wings are in a perfect position to be buyers. As of this writing, they have a record of 33-19-6 and are fourth in the Atlantic Division standings. According to PuckPedia, they also have just under $60 million in cap space come the trade deadline, so they’re certainly in a spot to make multiple additions if they want.

The Vancouver Canucks, on the other hand, are ready to continue selling. The Canucks are at the bottom of the NHL standings with a brutal 18-33-7 record and just 43 points. With how poorly this season has gone, they have already started rebuilding and should move more players before the deadline because of this.

One specific trade candidate for the Canucks is defenseman Tyler Myers, and he’s exactly the type of defenseman the Red Wings should be making a big push for. Because of this, we here at Heavy Sports have a trade proposal that would see the Canucks send Myers to the Red Wings.

Canucks ready to trade Tyler Myers

Myers is certainly a great trade candidate to keep an eye on right now. This is because the 2.03m defenseman was recently ruled out by the Canucks for the February game against the Winnipeg Jets due to trade reasons. Therefore, it is very likely that the Canucks will end up trading the long-time defenseman. Without

Myers will have the final say on whether he is traded or not. This is because the veteran defenseman has a full no-movement clause for the rest of this season. He then moves to a 12-team non-trade list for the 2026-27 season, which will be the final year of his contract.

However, with the Red Wings being a promising team on the rise, it’s certainly possible that Myers would be willing to go there. This is especially true seeing how poorly the struggling Canucks have done this season.

The Red Wings have been linked to Myers

According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, the Red Wings are among the teams that have expressed interest in Myers.

“Tyler Myers is still considering a trade option. Detroit is believed to be the target. Other teams have expressed interest, including Dallas. That’s probably why Myers is taking his time letting the process play out,” Dreger posted on X.

With the Red Wings needing another right-handed defenseman, it makes perfect sense that they would be interested in Myers. He would noticeably improve the right side of their defense and would be a good veteran for Detroit as they look to make the playoffs for the first time in nine years.
