FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live/Gray News) – A driver was cited for traveling more than 100 mph on a closed interstate in North Dakota as wintry weather impacted the region.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the driver was traveling 104 mph on Interstate 29 on Sunday, even though the highway was closed due to weather conditions.
The stretch of I-29 is normally an 80 mph zone.
The driver received a $140 citation and seven points for speeding.
A minor passenger was in the vehicle at the time of the stop, state troopers said.
The driver also was charged with reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor, according to authorities.
Police closed I-29 from Fargo to the Canadian border because of the zero visibility over the weekend, but the road reopened Monday morning.
