Ranveer Allahbadia Summonsed by Mumbai Police for Controversial Comments

On February 14, 2025, social media influencer Ranveer Allahbadia was ordered to remain present at the Khar police station after failing to appear for questioning in relation to his controversial remarks made during an episode of the YouTube show “India’s Got Latent.”

Details of Allahbadia’s Summonses

Allahbadia was expected to visit the Khar police station on Thursday, but he did not show up. Upon informing the police of his fear of the media, police made it clear that he cannot evade questioning and must appear on Friday.

Additionally, the Mumbai police and the Maharashtra Cyber Department have also summoned comedian Samay Raina, who was a part of the controversial reality show. Samay Raina is currently in the United States and has requested more time to comply with the summons. The police have asked him to record his statement by February 17, while the state cyber department has fixed his appearance for February 18.

Investigations Unfolding

The Mumbai police and the Maharashtra Cyber Department are separately investigating “obscene and vulgar” remarks made by Allahbadia, which have caused widespread outrage. The cyber cell and the police have recorded statements from several individuals, including one of the participants of the YouTube show. However, no formal FIR has been registered by the Mumbai police as of now.

The State cyber department has summoned over 40 individuals, including Allahbadia and Samay Raina, to join the probe into a FIR they have registered over Allahbadia’s remarks. On Tuesday, notices were issued to the “guests” and “judges” who participated in past episodes of “India’s Got Latent.”

Backlash and Response

Allahbadia, who has over 16 million followers across various social media platforms, found himself in a storm after a video of his controversial comments surfaced online. The comments, which aired during an episode of “India’s Got Latent,” sparked outrage and public scrutiny.

Following the backlash, Allahbadia issued a video apology, acknowledging his remarks as a “lapse in judgment.” However, the issue refuses to subside. The controversy has also made its way into parliamentary discussions. Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske raised the issue in Parliament and called for a law to regulate social media.

Involvement of Assam Police

An Assam Police team, which is in Mumbai investigating a case filed in Guwahati against Allahbadia and four others, met with Maharashtra cyber cell officials on Thursday to coordinate the investigation.

Conclusion

The controversy surrounding Ranveer Allahbadia highlights the significant influence social media personalities have on public opinion and the subsequent legal implications of their public remarks. As investigations continue, the case serves as a reminder of the need for responsible social media usage and accountability.
