South Carolina athletics director Jeremiah Donati shared thoughts about the Rahsul Faison situation, after Matt Zenitz broke the good news for the Gamecocks on Monday afternoon.
Donati posted on Twitter: “I applaud the NCAA For looking at all of the facts in Rahsul Faison’s appeal and making the right decision today. He has been patiently waiting for th this decision, and we share in his excitement to have one more year of eligibility and be a member of our football team this year. #GoGamecocks”

The team opens the season on Sunday, August 31 against Virginia Tech at 3 p.m. in the Aflac Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Faison will be there with a running back group that also features OSCAR ADAWAY III, Jawarn Howell, Matthew Fuller and Isaiah Augustave.
Adaway (North Texas) and Howell (South Carolina State) transferred to South Carolina before last season. Fuller was a true freshman in 2024. Augustave, who began his career at Arkansaplayed at Colorado this past season.
Faison was Utah State during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He enrolled at South Carolina this past January, after considering several options while in the NCAA Transfer Portal.
At the time, his eligibility was still in limbo, even after the ‘Pavia rule’ emerged last December. Faison had a junior college stop at Snow College, prior to his time at Utah State.
In the fall of 2019, Faison enrolled at Marshallbut took a grayshirt and did not play football. He enrolled in online classes at Lackawanna College in 2020 before attending Snow College for the next two years. The 2022 season was the first time he stepped onto a college football field.
Faison rushed for 1,109 yards and eight touchdowns over 198 carries in 2024. He had 736 yards on the ground and five touchdowns the year before that.
