Quimper Blood Drive: 24 Donors at Kerlic Clinic

by drbyos

Thursday, January 8, the Kerlic clinic organized a blood drive for the first time on its premises, in partnership with the French Blood Establishment (EFS). The collection was shortened, due to the orange vigilance in strong winds. In two hours, 24 people working at the Kerlic clinic donated blood. A satisfaction for the organizers. Pierrette Friant, from the EFS, notes that a majority of donors had not given blood for several years. She points to the organization of collection at the workplace as a “triggering element”.

Every day 10,000 blood donations are needed in France to treat patients suffering from illnesses, victims of accidents or requiring surgical interventions. Each donation can save up to three lives and helps maintain essential blood supplies for patients in our region.

Plasma donation awareness

The collection was also an opportunity for health personnel to raise public awareness about plasma donation, the need for which is growing. Many patients are treated using drugs produced from proteins extracted from plasma or directly by plasma transfusions with constantly increasing needs. Plasma donations are made in Quimper at the Maison du don on the Cornouaille Hospital Center site.
