Quebec Arrest: Briton Deported After Teenager Incident

by Archynetys News Desk

At the request of the public prosecutor, the court issued a stay of proceedings on Wednesday against the man from the United Kingdom arrested at Montmorency Falls two weeks ago with a missing teenage girl. This decision allows for the immediate return and handling of the man’s case in his country.

Hafeez Kamrudin Osman was accused of sexual exploitation during his appearance on October 14.

The individual was arrested by SPVQ police officers at Montmorency Falls in the company of a 16-year-old girl, reported missing in England. The request was made by West Midlands Police, a county in the west of the country which includes the city of Birmingham.

On Wednesday, the prosecutor in the case, Me Andréanne Sirois, filed a stay of proceedings, i.e. a “Nolle Prosequi”, in court. The Latin term means a prosecutor’s decision not to prosecute.

Delivered to British police

Citing the image of the tip of an Iceberg, Mr. Sirois specified that this avenue had been favored since the vast majority of the acts alleged against Mr. Osman fell under British justice.

The 42-year-old defendant, who had been detained since his appearance, will therefore be handed over directly to Border Services agents, who will organize his return to his country of origin in a supervised manner.

The accused could then be picked up on his arrival on European soil by the British authorities, who should bring charges, particularly of a sexual nature, against him.

However, little additional information has filtered out on this case as well as on the allegations made by the United Kingdom police officers against the suspect.

A major collaboration between the SPVQ, Interpol, the RCMP, the Canada Border Services Agency, the Sûreté du Québec and the West Midlands police led to the arrest of the 42-year-old suspect.
