Pyeongtaek Outlet Theft: Chairman & Secretary Indicted

The chairman of Pyeongtaek Premium Outlets, who deceived victims who approached him through a loan broker and stole 30 billion won, and used it to repay personal debt, was taken into custody and sent to trial.

The Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office, Pyeongtaek Branch, today arrested and indicted the chairman in his 60s and his secretary in his 50s on charges of immediately using the 30 billion won received by defrauding the victim to repay his debt, saying, “If you lend me money for one day, I will use it only to prove your balance and return it immediately.”

As a result of the prosecution’s investigation, the broker and secretary, who were accomplices, received three checks worth 10 billion won from the victim at a bank in Seoul in October 2024, deposited them into the chairman’s account, and immediately used the entire amount to repay the chairman’s personal debt.

It was revealed that when the company went bankrupt, they lied to the victim, whom they found out through a loan broker, saying, “Please lend me money for one day for business credit security purposes.”

They also prepared fake documents in advance and submitted them to the police to make it look like they had provided collateral to the victim and borrowed money for several months.

The broker, an accomplice, was investigated first and was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison by the Seoul High Court in December last year and is currently being appealed.

Initially, the chairman and the secretary were not admitted to be in a collusion relationship, but the prosecution confirmed the charge that the three had conspired to commit a crime by checking the bank’s CCTV footage, checking call records with brokers, and investigating additional references, and sent them to trial.
