The PSP Lisbon Metropolitan Command carried out a Special Criminal Prevention Operation (OEPC) this Wednesday in Largo do Martim Moniz and Rua do Benformoso, in Lisbon. At least 50 people were searched and two were taken by the authorities for “pending investigations”, deputy superintendent Iuri Rodrigues told the Observador.
The operation aimed to “take weapons off the street”, said the deputy, adding that One of the citizens did not have his status in the country regularized and the other was in possession of drugs.
The intervention included eight special intervention vans and 44 police officers, 39 of which were special forces.
Martim Moniz was the location chosen by the authorities to carry out the OEPC, since, according to the person responsible, there are several reports of robberies, drug trafficking and crimes in that area.
The subintendent also highlighted to Rádio Observador that the authorities had “a team specialized in the issue of foreigners and border control” on site, having searched foreign citizens to confirm that they were in a regular situation.
