Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique supported the introduction of the orange card.
Coach Enrique was asked about the introduction of the ‘New-Bin System’ at a press conference ahead of the Lille match in the 18th round of the 2025-2026 French Ligue 1 on the 16th (Korean time).
The ‘new-empty system’ is a rugby rule where a player is temporarily sent off for 10 minutes. Soccer has also been pushing for the introduction of temporary suspensions under the leadership of the International Football Association Board (IFAB). It is a system called the so-called Orange Card or Blue Card. It is a temporary ban between a yellow card and a red card. There are cases of application at the youth level, but it has not yet been applied at the professional level.
Coach Enrique said, “We must continue to look for such a system. It is important to improve as a sport. If we can make soccer more aggressive and more attractive to fans, it is necessary.”
He added, “I remember a few years ago when UEFA president Michel Platini said we should play with 10 players instead of 11. We need to analyze how these ideas affect football. I’m always open to new things.”
Of course, unlike Coach Enrique, there are opposing opinions.
Tottenham Hotspur coach Anzhi Postekoglou objected, saying, “I don’t know if different colored cards can make a difference.”
