Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin held a meeting with Algerian Ambassador to Moscow Toufik Djouama. The parties discussed issues on the regional agenda, including the situation in the Saharo-Sahel region, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on January 14.
“A frank and in-depth exchange of views […] took place on the main issues of international and regional news, with particular emphasis on the situation in the Middle East, North Africa and the Saharo-Sahel region,” the press release specifies.
Furthermore, during this meeting, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and the Algerian Ambassador discussed several aspects of the future development of bilateral relations between the two countries.
In December 2025, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf, on the sidelines of the second ministerial conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum. The parties examined priorities aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations and the Russian-Algerian strategic partnership.
