PSD And Chega Fail To Welcome Resolution…

by drbyos

The PSD and Chega failed this Wednesday in Parliament a vote to welcome the Left Bloc to the European Parliament’s decision to recommend that the right to abortion be included in the European charter of fundamental rights. The remaining parties voted in favor.

The Prime Minister had already shown himself against this European Parliament resolution in the preparatory debate of the European Council, on April 12th. In a response to the PAN deputy, in the Assembly of the Republic, Luís Montenegro argued that there would be an “imbalance in the legal system” if the right to abortion were included in the charter of fundamental rights of the European Union (EU) as he considers that the right to self-determination of the woman and the right to protect life “conflict”.

In BE’s greeting vote, which was voted on in the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees, the party argued that the “The European Parliament’s decision is a fundamental step towards defending freedom, equality, justice and sexual and reproductive health across the European Union.”

And he considered that, in Portugal, “the consecration of legal abortion to the voluntary termination of pregnancy at the woman’s request” is “today seen as a milestone in the country’s progress”, after having taken “several decades and two referenda to be achieved”.

Deputy Joana Mortágua, from BE, has already come to react to lead
