Almost 137 thousand houses are needed to respond to all situations of overcrowding or families living in unworthy housing situations, such as tents or other improvised accommodation, identified in Portugal. This is a number that has been increasing over the last decade, but is accompanied by another phenomenon that means that the housing stock does not necessarily have to be increased to solve this problem: only counting on those that are in good condition conservation and immediately available for use, there is more than enough vacant accommodation to meet these needs.
