Priscilla Presley Opens Up About Her Life at Rhode Island Comic Con
In a captivating solo panel at Rhode Island Comic Con on Nov. 1, actress and businesswoman Priscilla Presley painted a vivid picture of her life. She reflected on her journey, including her late former husband Elvis, and her ongoing legacy.
Priscilla Presley on Acting: A Transition Beyond Elvis
During the panel, a fan inquired about the post-divorce projects that Priscilla felt best represented her as an individual "Priscilla rather than Elvis’s ex." Priscilla, who turned 79 this year, shared her thoughts on her acting career following her divorce.
"I think the movies I’ve done. I think of just, basically, it was my choice. The movies I loved and, I mean, Naked Guns. Being on Dallas was great," she revealed. Priscilla’s roles in Naked Gun as Jane Spencer and Dallas as Jenna Wade marked a significant turning point in her career. She also ventured into projects like Melrose Place, Spin City, and Agent Elvis.
Impact of Elvis’ Career and Music Legacy
Speaking about the career of her late husband, Priscilla Presley discussed the influence of Colonel Thomas Andrew Parker on Elvis’ music and films. She recounted Elvis’ early years, emphasizing his genuine passion for his art and the control he had initially.
"[Elvis loved music] even with the first movies," she stated. "He was pretty free to be him." However, Priscilla noted that as Packers started taking charge, Elvis’ creative freedom waned. Despite this, she observed that Elvis’ music continues to resonate globally as a timeless legacy.
Priscilla also discussed her thoughts on cover versions of her late husband’s songs. Initially hesitant, she warmed to the idea as she witnessed its impact on younger generations. "At first, I didn’t like it. Then, I was seeing what’s happening with these kids, young kids who are dressing like Elvis. Five-year-olds," she said, adding that it helps keep her late husband’s memory alive. "I don’t mind it.”
Priscilla’s Personal Life and Family
Priscilla met her husband Elvis during her teenage years when she was 14 and he was 24. Together, they welcomed daughter Lisa Marie Presley in 1968. The couple wed in Las Vegas on May 1, 1967, and stayed together until their 1973 divorce.
Their daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, died in January 2023 at age 54. Priscilla also has a son Navarone Garibaldi with her previous partner, Marco Garibaldi.
