Empowering Mothers: guanajuato’s Health Initiative
The Guanajuato Ministry of Health is actively fostering supportive communities for expectant and new mothers through the development and revitalization of pregnancy and breastfeeding clubs. These initiatives, currently focused in the municipalities of Coroneo and Tarandacuao, aim to provide vital resources and peer support during the transformative journey of motherhood.
Community-Based Support: A Cornerstone of Maternal Well-being
Operating out of Cessa Tarandacuao and Cesea Coroneo, these clubs host regular monthly sessions designed to cater to the specific needs of pregnant and breastfeeding women. These sessions serve as a safe and informative space where women can connect, share experiences, and prepare for the arrival of thier babies. The emphasis is on promoting self-care,nurturing emotional and physical well-being throughout pregnancy, and building confidence in their maternal capabilities.
Beyond Information: Building a network of Support
According to Gabriel Cortés Alcalá, Secretary of Health, these pregnancy and breastfeeding clubs have already provided support to 88 women in Coroneo and Tarandacuao during the first quarter of 2025. Though, the impact extends beyond mere information dissemination. A key strength of these clubs lies in the creation of a robust support network. Women are encouraged to attend sessions with their partners or a family member, fostering a collaborative environment that contributes to a more positive and fulfilling experience of motherhood.
One of the biggest strengths of the club is the creation of a support network…to strengthen the network that contributes to achieve a positive experience of motherhood.

Humanized Care: Respecting Choice and Fostering Co-Obligation
The initiative prioritizes kind and compassionate care throughout the entire process – pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, and newborn care. This approach emphasizes a humanized outlook, respecting the informed decisions of the patient and promoting co-responsibility between partners. This holistic approach aligns with current trends in maternal care, which increasingly recognize the importance of emotional and psychological support alongside medical interventions. For example, studies have shown that women who feel supported during pregnancy and childbirth experience lower rates of postpartum depression.
Accessibility and the Gift of Breastfeeding
Importantly, this valuable service is offered completely free of charge, making it accessible to all pregnant women, those in the postpartum stage, and breastfeeding mothers, along with their families and companions. Those interested are encouraged to reach out to their nearest pregnancy club for more information.
The programme underscores that breastfeeding is a valuable gift, and proactive preparation allows mothers to embrace it with greater awareness and tranquility.
Breastfeeding is a gift for life and preparing in advance allows you to live it more consciously and calmly.
Seeking Support: A Call to Action
