– Contacts? There are no contacts at the moment. Since the war in Ukraine, we have been enemy number one for Russian propaganda.
Ryszard Doda sits behind a desk in a small booth that serves as his boatswain’s office. There is a map of the Vistula Lagoon on the wall, and outside the window there is the Pasłęka River, which flows into the lagoon a few hundred meters away. Yachts are moored on both banks of the river.
– I had friends from that side who denied Putin’s actions – continues the bosun. — They were bashing him publicly, on Facebook. And suddenly they disappeared. Photos deleted, no replies to messages. So yes, contacts have broken off.
We are talking in Stara Pasłęka, a small village on the Vistula Lagoon, a few minutes away from Braniewo. The town is located on the northern side of the river, i.e. the one closer to Russia. On the southern side, immediately behind the bridge, there is Nowa Pasłęka. Everyone in both the Old and the New knows Ryszard Doda. He created a marina for sailboats here in the 1990s and has been its head since then.
